In a distressing incident during the outstanding Premier League match between Real Tamale United (RTU) and Medeama, experienced match commissioner Charles Darkwah collapsed after being attacked by irate RTU fans on Wednesday afternoon.

The unsettling episode occurred during the first half of the match in Tamale.

Paramedics swiftly intervened to revive Darkwah, a Kumasi-based match commissioner, but the incident delayed the start of the second half.

The fans' aggression was primarily directed at the referees, but it appears that the match commissioner became an unintended victim in the crossfire.

Medeama had raised alarms, advocating for the match's abandonment in light of the unfortunate events.

The encounter was crucial for RTU, who are currently facing the threat of relegation, and they were determined to secure a victory against the defending champions, Medeama.

Having lost their last five matches, RTU is in a precarious position and risks returning to Division One after just the first round but they managed a 1-0 victory with Fuseini Mustapha scoring the only goal.

The incident added a somber note to the competitive atmosphere of the match.
