Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy, says when he visits Jamaica on any of his business trips; they hardly recognise he is from Ghana.
According to him, even though he is not so fluent in speaking the English-based creole language, Jamaican Patois, most of the natives think he is smooth at it.
He told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM that as an African rooted in the Jamaican culture, a lot of them seem amazed when he discloses his origin to them.
“They don’t believe I am outright Ghanaian. I am an African and we know the root culture and vibes, a Jamaican is a Jamaican but then they say I speak Patois than some of them…” he said.
Asked if they laugh at some of the Dancehall artistes who are not at par with him in the Patois language with regard to fluency, Stonebwoy responded: “they don’t laugh at us; music is a universal language”.
