Bright Aweh, the prime suspect in the murder of 38-year-old Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, has been remanded into police custody following his appearance before the Kaneshie District Court, to which the case has now been transferred from the Kwabenya Circuit Court.
Initially treated as a kidnapping investigation, the case has now been reclassified as murder, and proceedings have been adjourned to August 8, 2025.
The Accra Regional Police Command arrested Aweh after the partially burnt body of Officer Amoah was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025—five days after he was reported missing.

According to a statement by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Bright Aweh was the last known individual to have had contact with the deceased.
Investigations reveal that Aweh lured Amoah to a meeting on the evening of July 3 by sending WhatsApp images of large sums of money and offering to settle an outstanding debt. During police interrogation, Aweh admitted to handing over GH¢500,000 in cash to Amoah—purportedly for debt settlement and safekeeping.

However, he failed to provide a credible explanation for the source of the funds, and his statements reportedly contained multiple inconsistencies, raising suspicions about his involvement in the officer’s death.
Amoah’s remains, which were severely burnt and showed signs of multiple stab wounds, were later identified by family members at the Police Hospital morgue—evidence pointing strongly to foul play and a potential attempt to destroy evidence.
The police are continuing their investigations while Bright Aweh remains in custody.
