The Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Ayamba Ayii Laadi, has drawn widespread criticism following her remarks on the tragic deaths of six young people during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the MP suggested that the deceased were “destined to die” and that the incident occurred according to divine will.
“There is nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what the Almighty Allah has ordained for them.
Today is their day — no matter how, no matter what, no matter who was there — even if we brought all the presidents of the world to sit there, once today is ordained for them to die, they will,” she said.
Hon. Ayii Laadi stressed that no officer intended harm, adding that those who believe in the oneness of God would understand that the deaths were not caused by human action but by divine decree.
“This is what has happened, unless you don’t believe in the oneness of God. It is not anybody who wanted them to die; there is no single officer who wanted even one soul to pass,” she added.
Her comments have since sparked outrage among sections of the public, with many describing them as insensitive and dismissive of the victims’ suffering.
The tragedy at El-Wak occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when thousands of young Ghanaians gathered for a military recruitment exercise.
The overcrowding and poor crowd control led to a stampede that claimed six lives and left several others critically injured.
