Asante Kotoko's early-season struggles continued as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Gold Stars in their matchday 2 clash in Bibiani.
Gold Stars secured their first-ever home win against the Porcupine Warriors since their promotion to the top flight two seasons ago.
The home side started brightly, searching for the elusive opening goal, but their initial 17th-minute goal by Alex Aso was disallowed due to a foul on Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare, although replays suggested that the goal should have stood.
Kotoko had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 26th minute, but Steven Mukwala couldn't capitalize, and the first half ended goalless.
After the break, the Miners continued to dominate, winning free kicks in promising positions, but Frederick Asare thwarted all their efforts.
Ugandan forward Steven Mukwala missed another clear chance to give Kotoko the lead, firing wide.
However, Prince Adu Kwabena broke the deadlock for Gold Stars in the 65th minute. Just three minutes later, Sheriff Mohammed equalized for Kotoko.
In the 74th minute, Eric Bosomtwe curled in a sublime shot to restore Gold Stars' lead, and they held on to secure the victory.
Kotoko has yet to secure a win this season, having drawn their opening game against Kpando Heart of Lions last week.
