Medeama SC faced off against Major League Soccer side DC United in the Capital City Cup at the Audi Field Stadium in Washington DC and narrowly lost the game 2-1.
Coach Evans Adortey fielded a strong lineup for the match, with Felix Kyei in goal. The team featured players like Jean Vital, Kofi Asmah, Nurudeen Abdulai, and Black Stars duo Jonathan Sowah and Fatawu Hamidu.
The game got off to a competitive start, with both teams displaying a good brand of possession-based football in the opening minutes.
Colombian international Christian Dájome broke the deadlock for DC United in the 15th minute, giving the home team the lead after an extended period of possession.
In the second half, Medeama SC returned with a strong attacking approach, and just five minutes before the final whistle, they managed to equalize. Center-back Nurudeen Abdulai capitalized on a goalkeeper save to level the score.
However, DC United regained the lead on the 63rd minute, courtesy of Dutch international Nigel Robertha. Despite Medeama's efforts, the game ended 2-1 in favor of DC United.
Medeama SC is expected to return to Ghana next week and prepare for their upcoming Ghana Premier League match against Nations FC on Thursday, October 19, 2023.
