The happenings over the last few months with regard to the then kidnapped Takoradi girls who have now been pronounced dead upon last night's announcement by the Inspector General of Police,James Oppong Buanum has laid bare the palpable mistrust for the police from the citizenry.

It's nearly a year now and the events that have passed regarding the issue has exposed institutional flaws within our law enforcement agency.

According to mother of the first victim, when their daughter got missing and they lodged a complaint to the Police, the station officer there told them to remain silent and not to make noise as their daughter will come home.

Apparently they wanted to save their face from any embarrassing or negative story instead of doing the right thing by commencing investigations.

For so long a time the Ghana Police Service has lost any aura they had around them due to issues of corruption and the public mistrust for the state institution.

The misconception the public had about the police may have been confirmed by the issues relating to the kidnapping and now the eventual pronouncements of DNA samples of them been positive.

How come after forensic investigations by a competent body as the Forensic Science Laboratory of the Ghana Police Service, family members of the victims and even some Ghanains doubt the results of the test ?

What happened to the investigator who allegedly helped the prime suspect Samuel Udoetuk Wills in the case escape?

Why won't they when the head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) told the country that they know where the girls are and that they are all safe and will soon bring them back to their families.

What happened to bring the girls back to their families? Instead you are sending them grief, sorrow and unquenchable nostalgia about their beloved girls.

For far too long the Police Service has been tired to the apron strings of successive government's thereby eroding the trust the public has in them.

They have become a play thing of the executive to the extent that one of their common lexicons is 'order from above'.

When there is case leveled against you and that unseen, undiminished, unrelenting, all powerful, the hallowed 'order from above' comes in my brother/sister you are doomed forever because the policeman/woman fears for his job and any sabotage so will gladly listen to that 'order from above'.

There are a lot of hardworking Policemen and women scattered all over the country but the nonchalance and arbitrariness that characterizes their response to issues is non existent most often its as if you are the one hurt or with an issue and I don't care.

They must step up their customer service approach and also step up their response time to issues when reported to them but I know once again the age old complaint of cars and logistics will come up.

Government must provide them but must allow  Police to lead their lives its like a father who wants to dictate to his/her adult child every move he/she must take just because you paid for their education and every other bill.

I await the day when the Ghana Police Service's tinged integrity and mistrust in the eyes of the public as corrupt, money grabbing will change.

In the eyes of many Ghanaians every MTTD personnel is by the road side for their usual 1 Ghana cedi, 5 Ghana Cedis notes which they expertly or magically pull through the casing of driver's licenses with such panache and skill as if they were trained on that.

False hope kills and do not promise what you can't give even our creator is averse to people like Maame Yaa Tiwaa who give promises and do not keep them.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-7 If you make a promise to God, keep your promise. Don’t be slow to do what you promised. God is not happy with fools. Give God what you promised to give him. It is better to promise nothing than to promise something and not be able to do it. So don’t let your words cause you to sin. Don’t say to the priest, “I didn’t mean what I said.” If you do this, God might become angry with your words and destroy everything you have worked for. You should not let your useless dreams and bragging bring you trouble. You should respect God.
