Visually-impaired students in the Central Region have joined thousands of candidates across the country in writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), utilising braille to demonstrate their academic abilities.
These special needs candidates are sitting for the exams at the Holy Child Examination Centre in Cape Coast, a facility specifically designated and equipped to accommodate their unique requirements.
Speaking to JoyNews, Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Julliette Duffie Otamie, confirmed that 54 visually-impaired and other special needs candidates are participating in this year’s BECE in the region.
She stated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has implemented deliberate measures to create a supportive and inclusive environment for the candidates during the examination period.
The use of braille in the BECE reflects ongoing national efforts to promote inclusive education and ensure that no student is left behind due to disability.
The BECE, which commenced today, serves as a crucial assessment for placement into senior high schools and technical institutions across Ghana.
