Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, Makafui Woanyah urged members of the NPP to be guided by history and retain former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party's Flagbearer for the next election in 2028.

Making a strong case for the retention of Dr. Bawumia, the regional chairman told party members in Hohoe, during the campaign of the Vice President in the region, that history has proven that consistency in maintaining candidates translate into success, and referenced the stories of Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo to buttress his point.

"In the political market, there are rules. And the rule is evident in Ghana that consistency is the key. We've seen it with NDC and we've seen it with NPP. That when you take a product to the market and that product is not bought, repeat that product and it will be bought," Chairman Wanya said.

"The precedent is there, it is clear. President Kufuor went two times and we got it. President Akufo-Addo went three time and we got it."

The Volta Regional Chairmen also referred to the multiple times both John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama attempted the Presidency before they eventually won after the NDC backed them repeatedly.

"Mahama went three times and he got. The previous one was because President Mills died and with the mourning and sympathies, he got it (in 2012). But when he came in 2016 he lost. They repeated him in 2020, he lost. Then he came back in 2024."
