Head coach of Ghana’s senior women’s national team, Kim Lars Bjokegren has announced his final squad for the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations [WAFCON] which will be staged in Morocco from July 5 to July 26.

The final squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders as well as six players in attack. The team has their figurehead and captain in the person of Portia Boakye, while Abigail Kofi Kim has been dropped from the squad. There are five home-based players called up for the tournament.

Kerrie McCarthy, Afi Amenyaku, Comfort Yeboah, Nancy Amoah and Wasiima Mohammed are the Ghana Women's Premier League players called up for the tournament.

The Black Queens are drawn in Group C alongside defending champions South Africa, Mali and Tanzania. The tournament which will see the Black Queens make a triumphant return to the WAFCON for the first time since 2018 will be their 13th participation at the tournament.

The team played in three preparatory games prior to the main tournament, playing against Namibia Women and edging past them in a 3-1 victory before another triumph over Benin Women in a 4-2 win before the final preparatory game against West African rivals, Nigeria Women where they lost 3-1— resulting to 8 goals scored and 6 goals conceded in the pre WAFCON games.
