The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed, with the tournament now scheduled to take place from 25 July to 16 August 2026 in Morocco.

‎The competition had originally been planned for 17 March to 3 April, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the change less than two weeks before the opening match was due to be played.

‎In a statement, CAF said the decision was reached after consultations with stakeholders, including FIFA, to ensure the smooth organisation and success of the tournament.

‎“After discussions between CAF and its partners, including FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the tournament to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women’s competition in light of unforeseen circumstances,” the governing body said.

‎The tournament will still be hosted by Morocco despite earlier speculation that the North African country might withdraw from staging the event. South Africa had reportedly shown interest in stepping in as an alternative host.

‎The rescheduled tournament will take place shortly after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

‎The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

‎Ghana women's national football team, popularly known as the Black Queens, have been drawn in Group D alongside the Cameroon women's national football team, Mali women's national football team and Cape Verde women's national football team.

‎Ghana will be hoping to make a strong impression in the continental tournament as they pursue qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
