Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has voiced his belief that talented teenager Kobbie Mainoo deserves a place in England's squad over Trent Alexander-Arnold for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.

Mainoo has been included in England's provisional squad for the tournament, marking a significant recognition of his burgeoning talent.

Rooney, speaking on The Overlap, expressed his views on Alexander-Arnold potentially playing in midfield instead of defense, stating, "I have watched Trent play in midfield a few times and I think you lose a lot of his qualities.

His delivery is obviously incredible, but midfield is such an important position."

"I would play Mainoo before Trent in midfield, 100%," Rooney emphasized, highlighting Mainoo's potential impact in the midfield role.

While acknowledging Alexander-Arnold's versatility and exceptional passing ability, Rooney stressed the importance of midfield discipline, especially against stronger opponents, suggesting that Alexander-Arnold might face challenges in adapting to the position.

Mainoo, who impressed for Manchester United during the previous season with three goals in 25 appearances, has also made his mark on the international stage, making his England senior debut against Brazil.

Born to Ghanaian parents, Mainoo's inclusion in the England setup underscores his rising stature in football and the recognition of his talent by renowned figures like Wayne Rooney.

As the Euro 2024 tournament approaches, Mainoo's potential impact on the England squad adds an intriguing dimension to the team's prospects.
