Veteran musician and dancer, Akosua Agyapong has said that songs by contemporary artistes get more play time than songs by veterans musicians.

Several veterans have also complained about same issue, claiming they are refused same mileage as the present-day artistes when they release a new song.

The highlife artiste stated her new song “Gye W3ni’ is a danceable tune because she wanted to follow the new style of most contemporary artistes whose songs are mostly played.

“If you don’t give them something they won’t play. I have to roam and go and get money so I give it to them so they play my songs.” Akosua Agyapong added

“Now I want people to listen to good songs but Djs and presenters are not being fair to us the veterans. They give more playing time to the young ones forgetting that they (contemporary artistes) have money to pay to promote their songs. We the veterans bringing out sensible songs don’t get airplay. Our songs are not dull, they are definitely not boring so we deserve airplay. They should play our songs so that people would know we are still in the system and we are still recording, we are still releasing albums.”

Akosua Agyapong commended some young artists making an impact in the Ghanaian music industry, stating that MzVee, Adina and Kofi Kinaata as some of the contemporary artistes who deserve praise.

She also talked about her new sanitation project, stating that she recently collaborated with some District Assemblies located in Accra to organize clean up exercise.

She entreated others to take up the mantle and leave a positive footprint for the younger generation to follow.

“God said we should say the truth, it has come to notice that the whole world Ghana has being ranked 7th. The 7th is not like we went for the world cup to win that position and it is not like we went to Miss World Beauty contest to win that position but the whole world we have being ranked 7th for being the dirtiest country. So, I took it upon myself to start this clean up exercise so I keep Ghana clean just as how the Ministry of Sanitation has started with their keep Ghana clean project. I started from Mallam Junction to Mallam Market so it is something I’ve already started collaborating with Zoomlion Company and District Assemblies. Now I’ve added clean up exercise to my music project.” She said on Zylofon FM
