President of the Musicians Union of Ghana(MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour popularly known as Obour has debunked the notion that Ghana’s big win at the just ended All Africa Music Awards(AFRIMA) was a reward for hosting the event.

For him, Ghana deserved all the eight awards grabbed on the night at the Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) on Saturday, November 24.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, November 27, Obour said Ghana deserved all the awards because the artistes have been working very hard in the last two years.

Obour said in the last two years, Ghana has had a lot of presence on the continent.

“If you monitor Ghana’s performance over the last two years, you would know that Ghana more than deserved the awards won last weekend.

“Besides, the huge reception Ghanaian artistes who performed in Sierra Leone enjoyed recently goes to show how well Ghana’s music is doing outside her shores so it is quite unfortunate people would say our win is just because we hosted AFRIMA”, Obour stated.

Obour added that if Ghanaians continued to support their own, he is certain our music would travel far and winning continental awards such as AFRIMA will come on a silver platter.

Francis Doku, Country Director 'AFRIMA', Ghana

On his part, the Country Director AFRIMA, Ghana, Francis Doku said he was very excited about Ghana’s intense participation in this year’s AFRIMA which helped its big win on the night.

“It was good that our people came through to vote for their stars and that culminated in this result. As Country Director, I am happy that we didn’t hold an event for others to come and clear the board,” he stated.
