Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed strong belief in the Black Stars’ ability to make a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite recent struggles.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament, set to be hosted across North America, and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.
The Black Stars head into the competition following a series of underwhelming results in recent friendlies, and currently without a substantive head coach after the departure of Otto Addo. However, Adams remains optimistic, insisting the squad still possesses enough quality to compete at the highest level.
“We may not have the best of players as we had in the past, but we still have what it takes to go very, very far,” he told Channel One TV.
The minister confirmed that efforts to appoint a new head coach are at an advanced stage, with experienced names such as Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos reportedly under consideration.
As part of preparations, Ghana will face Mexico national football team and Wales national football team in upcoming friendlies.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on 17 June, before facing England and Croatia later in the group stage, as they aim to improve on back-to-back group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
