The Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea, has called on politicians to advise their supporters to constantly wear face masks as they engage them with their campaigns messages ahead of the December 7th general elections.
According to him, the continuous wearing of face masks by Ghanaians will help prevent a second wave of the deadly coronavirus.
As at Tuesday [September 15, 2020], Ghana had recorded 29 new cases of the virus, shooting the country's confirmed cases to a total of 45, 601. Active cases, however, stand at 628 with 44, 679 recoveries/discharges, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Data available on the GHS’ portal also shows that 9 additional fatalities have been recorded, bringing Ghana’s death toll from 285 to 294.
Reports trickling in suggest that most Ghanaians have stopped the adherence to social distancing and wearing of masks directives following the reduction in active cases.
But commenting on the subject on Peace FM's Kokrokoo morning show hosted by Kwame Sefa Kayi, Nana Akomea, described as 'worrying' how most people in this country are now reluctant to practice the COVID-19 protocols especially with the wearing of nose masks.
He said it is important we do not record a second wave of the virus as a country since that could be deadlier.
