Name: Akshay Sobti Occupation: Businessman Age: 24 years Highest weight recorded: 120 kg Weight lost: 40 kg Duration it took me to lose weight: 1 year The turning point: Since I weighed a massive 120 kgs, my clothing options were very limited. I was not able to buy the clothes that I liked or dress the way I wanted. I realised as long as I was overweight, I will not have the freedom to wear what I like. This realisation paved the way to this weight loss journey. My breakfast: Boiled chicken with salad/paranthas without oil. Alternatively, I also like to have a brown bread sandwich without cheese or sauce. My lunch: Yellow daal with brown rice and vegetables or boiled chicken breast without salt. Alternatively, I have daal with 2 chapatis and some salad. My dinner: I just have soup and salad on the days I work on my abs. On the rest of the days, I repeat what I had for lunch. I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): On my cheat days, I love eating pizza, burger and even butter chicken. My workout: I start my workout with cross training, then I move onto double body part exercise and end it with cycling. Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Chicken breast salad and sprouts salad Fitness secrets I unveiled: Eating healthy goes a long way in staying fit. Your first priority should be eating foods low in calories. How do I stay motivated? I follow several YouTube fitness channels which keep me motivated and inspire me to stay on the track. How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? As of now, my goal is to look presentable and dress up the way I have always wanted. I know it for a fact that if I go back to being overweight, I won’t be able to wear the clothes I like. What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? Being overweight is not only physically exhausting, but it also causes an emotional turmoil which people don’t usually understand. Constant taunts and being singled out for your weight is not something I’d wish even for my worst enemy.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I wish to become a healthier person with a great physique.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? I have completely shunned oily food to maintain my weight. Also, I try to eat low-calorie food whenever possible and drink plenty of water to keep myself hydrated.

What was the lowest point for you? If you are overweight, life is a constant struggle as even doing the smallest of tasks becomes very difficult. Thankfully, even though I was not able to live my life the way I wanted, I did not hit a low point.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: Weight loss is a constant journey and you need to keep going, till the time you reach the finish line. There are no shortcuts to lose weight, it is a long road but definitely worth it.
