Being overweight is frustrating, to put it mildly. But imagine being shunned and not being able to dress how you want to, just because of your weight. The same happened with 29-year-old Nandita Mathur, who loved dressing up but could not find anything in her size.
In addition to styling woes, the health conditions, which were lining up one after the other, ultimately made her realise that it was high time she started on her weight loss journey.
Read her weight loss journey to get pumped up to lose some weight! Name: Nandita Mathur Occupation: Project Manager Age: 29 years Highest weight recorded: 98 kgs Weight lost: 30 kgs Duration it took me to lose weight: 12 months The turning point: I have always enjoyed wearing stylish outfits. But, when I became overweight, it was heartbreaking to hear the same statement over and over again from different shopkeepers. No matter which garment shop I went to, they all had the same standard reply, “Sorry, the requested dress is not available in your size. It is only available from sizes S to L but not in XXL.”
I became really frustrated as I had to compromise on my dressing sense and overall sense of style because of my weight. That is when I decided that enough was enough and I had to get back into shape. Losing weight was not only essential to regain my lost confidence but also for my overall well being. My breakfast: Oatmeal, boiled eggs, fruits, and peanut butter My lunch: Sprouts, salad, brown rice, boiled chickpeas, and kidney beans My dinner: Boiled chicken,1 bowl of daal, tofu and salad I indulge in: Eliminating my favourite food items from my daily diet was the toughest task for me. I absolutely love having tandoori chicken and egg yolk on my cheat days. My workout: I had started my training with cardio, pushups and squats to tone and strengthen my muscles. On the other hand, doing squats played a major role in the reduction of thigh fat. My day-to-day workout involves lifting dumbbells, doing planks, mountain climbing, jumping Jacks, and battle rope. Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I love having fruits with yoghurt, oatmeal and grilled chicken in olive oil. Fitness secrets I unveiled: Determination and dedication are the two secret ingredients of my fitness. How do I stay motivated? I stay motivated by tracking my progress every day. To do so, I compare my latest photographs with the old ones. In addition, the appreciation that I get on a daily basis from my family and friends is my biggest source of motivation. Most of all, I can now buy dresses of my choice and don’t have to compromise, which is a dream come true. How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? Fitness has become an integral part of my life. I can't even imagine starting my day without exercising at 6 in the morning. Also, I have become really confident about my own body, which ensures that I stay focused on the path of fitness. What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? The most difficult part of being overweight was the mean comments and jibes that come your way. In fact, it is heartbreaking how people immediately judge you by your appearance and not by your nature/behaviour when you are overweight. During my schooling, a lot of my classmates avoided talking to me or playing with me, which was very upsetting.
However, the worst part of being overweight is facing a tremendous amount of difficulty while climbing stairs. What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to reduce more weight and weigh around 55 kilos. What are the lifestyle changes you made? I made a couple of major lifestyle changes to lose weight. Two of them are:

1. I made workout my first and only priority

2. I only eat healthy food, except on cheat days

What was the lowest point for you? The lowest point for me was when I was stuck in a weight loss plateau for 2 months.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I learnt a lot of lessons during my weight loss journey, but the most important lesson was realising that unwavering dedication is the key to success.
