Loving yourself enough, never really goes out of style. It was self-love that motivated 22-year-old Sagarika to accept herself, just the way she was and then start her journey towards fitness. Her weight loss quest is inspiring and jaw-dropping in equal amounts. For anyone out there who is dejected and wants to shed those extra kilos, her journey is a living example that anything is possible once you set your mind to it. Remember, mind over matter, always.

Name: Sagarika Chettri Occupation: Engineering student and fitness model Age: 22 years Highest weight recorded: 90 kilos Weight lost: 32 kilos Duration it took me to lose weight: 7 months The turning point: The first step towards the fitness journey was to start loving myself, just the way I was. I realised the importance of self-love as when you don’t love and respect yourself enough, you really can’t expect others to do the same. My breakfast: Oats with chia seeds and double-toned milk. My lunch: Two chapatis with a bowl daal and some egg curry. Mid lunch: Soaked almonds and a banana smoothie. My dinner: 150 gms of chicken along with natural carbs such as vegetable salad. I also make it a point to drink plenty of water, throughout the day. I indulge in: I have never cheated on my diet, ever. My workout: Running and doing planks, every single day. Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I think Greek yoghurt is a great source of protein and helps to curb cravings and promote weight loss. Fitness secrets I unveiled: The more time you invest in your workout, the better results you will get. Weight loss: “I wanted a perfect 36-24-36 figure” How do I stay motivated? When I started seeing the results for myself, it encouraged me to work harder. The new Sagarika that smiled back at me from the mirror motivated to keep going on. How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? I keep my old photograph as the wallpaper of my phone, which always reminds me how far I have come and there is still a long way to go. What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? Your whole attitude changes when you are overweight since you are not happy with yourself. You feel frustrated and irritated, all the time.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to have an hourglass figure i.e. a perfect 36-24-36.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? I have completely changed my lifestyle in order to lose weight. I started waking up early and going to bed on time. This helped me avoid all the late night parties, drinking and binge eating. Eventually, I started feeling more energetic and fresh.

What was the lowest point for you? The first month of my weight loss journey was the toughest phase of my life.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: Nothing is impossible, if you set your mind on it. When I started my weight loss journey, I never thought I would come so far.
