Everyone wants to look good. But the pressure heightens when you enter your 20s. Something similar happened with Alan Vidyush Baptist. He wanted to lose weight to look good. He took nine months to lose 30 kilos. The journey didn't just make him lose weight but also made him realise the importance of being healthy. Here's his journey.

Name: Alan Vidyush Baptist Occupation: Nutritionist Age: 23 years Highest weight recorded: 90 kilos Weight lost: 30 kilos Duration it took me to lose weight: 9 months The turning point: Despite my struggle to climb the stairs without gasping for breath, it was not this reason that I wanted to lose weight. I wanted to look better and improve my appearance because of which I took up this journey. I began my fitness journey in January 2017. I finally decided to get rid of my excess weight to become a fitter version of myself. My nutrition protocol: I had no fixed nutrition plan and despite that I managed to lose an awe-inducing 30 kgs of fat and get my six pack abs to flaunt. It was possible for me to get that shredded look without following a fixed and rigid nutrition plan. So, I placed myself in a calorie deficit. I kept my protein intake quite high and I simply ensured I was creating a calorie deficit. I indulge in: The concept of cheat days never really applied to me as I never deprived myself of indulging in foods I loved to eat. I essentially tweaked the amount of junk food that I was accustomed to having earlier. My workout: So, this is what is of utmost importance for people to understand as it is the very key to losing weight. alan fat Food: 90% of my focus and mental energy was invested in making sure that I eat my meals in a way that ensured I was in a calorie deficit. Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Green leafy vegetables, soy milk, plain curd, soy chunks and citrusy fruits. Fitness secrets I unveiled: The only mantra to lose weight, that in-fact works 100 per cent of the times is eat less and move more. How do you stay motivated and ensure you don't lose focus?Well, the idea is to simply incorporate this change and make it a part of your lifestyle in such a manner that eating in moderation, nourishing yourself well and working out regularly feels like any other activity you perform on a daily basis. What's the most difficult part of being overweight? The most challenging issue of being overweight is the constant battle that one has to fight from succumbing to body-image problems. In a society where a lot of emphasis is placed on appearance, we tend to get distressed when we fail to live up to the collective societal standards about the idea of beauty. It takes a lot of mental willpower to convince yourself on a regular basis.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?10 years down the line, I simply wish to be in a position where I possess sufficient knowledge, skill and experience to coach and mentor other individuals who are struggling with fighting obesity.

What are the lifestyle changes you made? I eat only as many calories as I can burn and I also made it a habit to lead a more active lifestyle.

What was the lowest point for you?I remember being taunted about my pseudo-gynecomastia (colloquially called "man-boobs or moobs") once by a really close friend of mine and although it was meant as a light-hearted jibe, it remains a well-documented memory in my head even today. I felt horribly emasculated.

Lessons learnt from weight lossEmbrace your condition, and love yourself. Do not diet and try to change your body because you hate it, but get healthier because you love it. I realized that now my sense of self is not tied to what I look like, which is a good thing I believe.
