Name: Chetna KapoorOccupation: Writer/BloggerAge: 26 yearsHighest weight recorded: 78 kgsWeight lost: 15 kgsDuration it took me to lose weight: 5 monthsThe turning point: I always knew that I was overweight, hence I was constantly taking measures to get rid of the excess weight. I also tried the GM diet but failed. The worst thing that happened to me was that my dress tore at a party, right in front of everyone. That is when I decided that it was high time I did something about my weight or else it would be too late. My breakfast: I begin my day by drinking one litre of water on an empty stomach. After about half an hour, I have a handful of dry fruits (almonds, pecans etc), a slice of brown bread, two biscuits and something heavy like a paratha. My lunch: One cup of daal, one cup of brown rice, two bran chapatis and some vegetable curry. My dinner: I believe in having an early and light dinner, so I eat my dinner around 7 pm. In the evening, I have some soup, puffed rice, salads or just some vegetable curry. I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): I have reserved my cheat days for PMS as I get some really weird cravings. I love feasting on baked cheesecake, jalebis and white sauce pasta during my periods. My workout: I didn’t go to the gym so whatever I did, it was either at home and/or office. My workout included going up and down the stairs, doing surya namaskars, a few planks and lifting 5 kg dumbbells.Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I love having vegetable puffed rice. I also like eating besan or moong daal chillas with just a little bit of paneer inside it.Fitness secrets I unveiled: Stay away from sugar if you want to lose weight. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water every day. How do I stay motivated? My mother keeps me motivated by making different types of homemade recipes which are extremely good for health. Moreover, I am don’t want to face health issues again, so fear is my biggest motivation. How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? My old clothes and photographs are a constant reminder that I need to stay focussed, else I will go down that path again. What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? When you gain weight, all sort of health issues come knocking on your door. So being overweight basically means dealing with medicines, constant fat and body shaming jokes from people and limited wardrobe options.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I don’t want to go the size zero route rather I want to maintain my healthy lifestyle for as long as I can. What are the lifestyle changes you made? I increased my water intake and shifted to low-calorie alcohol like wine or vodka. Earlier, I used to go out to eat twice a week but now it has come down to twice a month. I make it a point to buy low-calorie food items whenever I am going grocery shopping. I have also completely shunned late-night munching.

What was the lowest point for you? After my operation, I realised I had become really lethargic and lazy. I was also fed up of the constant taunts and stares. Lessons learnt from weight loss: Weight loss takes a lot of patience, willpower and self-control. I have also realised that watching a person successfully lose weight and transform his/her body is more inspiring than listening to a fitness coach who has a perfect body.
