Name: Sumeet Kaur Occupation: Entrepreneur Age: 44 years Highest weight recorded: 125 kgs Weight lost: 30 kgs Duration it took me to lose weight: 6 months The turning point: There was a point in my life where I realised that the way things were moving forward, I would be battling several diseases. I also realised that all the pain and aftermath of these illnesses will be borne by me alone as others can simply take me to the doctor. My breakfast: I love having moong-daal chila, egg whites and even oats. One of my all time favourites is besan chilla with lots of green vegetables. My lunch: I have 1 bowl of daal, 1 bowl of green vegetables and 2 chapatis. My dinner: I only stick to salads and soups for my last meal of the day. I indulge in: I absolutely love gorging on rajma and some brown rice. My workout: I do not go to the gym at all. Instead, I opt for brisk walking, weight training and HIIT at home. Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I blindly trust all sorts of salads as my go-to healthy recipes. Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have realised that the first step towards a healthy lifestyle starts right from our kitchen itself. While homemade and local food is the best for your health, it is ultimately your eating habits and fitness routine that matters the most. How do I stay motivated? When I see my old photographs and compare them with the recent ones, I witness a sea of difference which acts as a huge motivation in itself. Additionally, when I have a look at my old clothes, it makes me feel really, really good to see the tangible difference through the lost inches. However, the highlight of my weight loss journey is undoubtedly when my HBA1C test for diabetes came down from 11.5 to 5.0. That achievement was absolutely unbelievable! H ow do you ensure you don’t lose focus? I made it a point to remind myself of my goal every single day. However, the bigger motivation was seeing the difference in inches, it ensured that I stayed right on the fitness track and wasn't demotivated. What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? I did not have enough strength to get through the day because of all the excess weight. What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to get back the physique I had in my younger years. I weighed just 64 kilos and had a svelte waist. I also aspire to have a lot of strength and energy.

What are the lifestyle changes you made ? I completely changed my lifestyle including changing my food habits a 180 degree. I deliberately chose healthy, homemade food and completely shunned packaged food.

What was the lowest point for you? The moment I realised that my body parts had started looking bulgy, I felt really bad. It had a major impact on my self-esteem.

Lessons learnt from weight loss: I have realised that everything you need to lose weight and stay fit is in your head. You can easily achieve your goals once you make up your mind. Anyone can do it, you just need to have a strong mindset for that.
