Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy National Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to come forward and assist in his immediate arrest.

Gbande stated that this action is crucial to ensure that Chairman Wontumi faces justice for his alleged involvement in environmental offenses.

He stressed that he is committed to holding Wontumi accountable for his role in mining operations that have led to severe water pollution and extensive deforestation in various regions.

Speaking on the Kumasi-based radio program Cup of Tea, Gbande revealed that he is actively in the Ashanti Region, collaborating with law enforcement to facilitate Wontumi’s arrest.

“I have set up an ambush, but I still cannot find Wontumi. I am personally in the area looking for him. If anyone knows where the NPP Regional Chairman is, please let me know. I am not alone in this search—I am working with the police to ensure he faces justice,” Gbande said.

When asked about his personal involvement, Mr. Gbande clarified, “I don’t arrest people. I’m working with the police and relevant law enforcement agencies. Wontumi will be arrested—he can try to run, but we will find him.”

Gbande reaffirmed his determination to address the environmental damage caused by Wontumi’s alleged actions, adding, “I made a promise to the people of the Ashanti Region that after the elections, we would bring him to justice. I am here to fulfill that promise.”

He further emphasized that Wontumi should be held responsible for the damage caused in the Ashanti, Central, and Western Regions due to land degradation, water pollution, and environmental destruction.

“We will seize his mining equipment and sell his properties, including his house, to compensate Ghanaians for the harm he has caused. This is a man who publicly flaunted gold—now we will investigate his mining sites to see if proper reclamation has been done,” Gbande stated.

Expressing disappointment at the continued support Wontumi receives, even from traditional leaders, Gbande remarked, “I am shocked that people, including chiefs, continue to praise him despite the destruction he has caused to the environment.

“We will arrest him, and if the NPP refuses to remove such a person as their Regional Chairman, it will only damage the image of the Ashanti Region. We will apprehend Wontumi, just like we would catch a hen.”
