A new ICT Household Survey by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics reveals that 99% of families in Kosovo have internet access in 2024. This BBC-style report explores digital inclusion, age group trends, and gender balance in internet usage across the nation.
Kosovo Nears Full Digital Inclusion
Kosovo is rapidly becoming one of Europe’s most connected nations, with almost every household now online. According to the latest ICT Household Survey 2024 conducted by the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), approximately 99% of families in Kosovo have access to the internet, marking a significant step toward complete digital inclusion.
Only 0.8% of households reported having no internet connection in 2024 — a remarkable achievement reflecting years of investment in telecommunications infrastructure, digital literacy, and affordable data services.
Young Kosovars Lead the Digital Wave
The survey reveals that the 16–24 age group dominates the digital space, accounting for 38% of total internet users in Kosovo. Following closely are individuals aged 25–34, representing 14.2% of internet users.
At the other end of the spectrum, older citizens—particularly those between 65 and 74 years old—record the lowest engagement, with only 10.7% using the internet. Analysts suggest this gap underscores a generational divide in technology adoption, highlighting the need for digital education programs targeting older residents.
Gender Balance in Online Activity
When it comes to gender representation, the findings show a nearly equal split. Men make up 50.3% of internet users, while women account for 49.7%. This balance illustrates growing gender equality in digital participation and access, a trend that aligns Kosovo with broader European standards.
Experts note that equal internet access is not just a sign of technological progress but also a driver of social and economic empowerment for women across the country.
Smart Homes and the Future of Connectivity
The ICT Household Survey also sheds light on changing lifestyles in Kosovo’s connected homes. An impressive 89% of individuals who used the internet in the past three months reported having an internet-connected television, suggesting a surge in smart home technology adoption. Only 11% of users said they did not own such a device.
This widespread digital presence signals a future where connectivity and convenience continue to shape everyday life in Kosovo — from education and entertainment to business and communication.
The results of the 2024 ICT Household Survey confirm Kosovo’s growing status as a digitally inclusive nation. With 99% of families now connected, the country has bridged much of the digital divide that once limited access to information and opportunity.
As Kosovo continues to expand its digital infrastructure, the small percentage of families still offline could soon join the online majority, ensuring that the promise of technology reaches every corner of the nation.
