The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah has hit out at their sponsors MTN Ghana Limited for suspending their partnership agreement with the club when they were not playing football.

According to the CEO, the telecommunication giants left the club hanging midstream citing COVID-19 as their reasons for withholding the Asante Kotoko contract.

He however says his club is waiting on MTN to initiate talks so that they can continue their relationship.

The CEO also indicated that they are open to getting more corporate bodies on board so as to mutually benefit Kotoko and the prospective sponsors.

He made this known in an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa FM on Saturday 26th, December 2020.

"We have not terminated our ties with MTN but 17 days after I took over they informed the club that they were putting our contract on hold due to COVID-19."

"But I was overwhelmed by their action since they are a lot of Kotoko supporters who have bough MTN sim cards in COVID-19 times and even still using MTN .

So I was not in agreement with their action since when you are in partnership with someone and there is difficulty you don't leave the person hanging but you support them."

"But we are not cutting ties entirely with MTN as we are still open to dialogue.

We want more corporate sponsors on board and we are ready and willing to maintain the current MTN deal and even improve it" he added.
