In the last few weeks Ghana's rotten medical care system has been brought into sharp focus with issues about the scanty beds, obsolete and non existent machines and poor infrastructure at the hospitals among the many issues raised.

Ordinarily anyone should walk into any hospital and be taken care of but that is not the case in most hospitals in Ghana, if you don't know anyone you will die in the car that sent you there as with many hospitals there are no beds.

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency, Sam Nartey George has shed a harrowing experience of how a 12 year old boy of an Assembly Member in his Constituency died because there was no bed first at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and also at the 37 Military Hospital.

In a thread on his social media handle he narrated how he was called that the 12 year old boy has been rushed to the Battor Catholic Hospital in the morning but his condition was deteriorating and had to be referred to a bigger facility.

According to the legislator, they made calls to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital but they were told there are no beds so they followed it up with calls to 37 Military Hospital where they were fortunate to get a bed and that was around 3pm.

Even before they could get confirmation from 37, it had to take about five solid hours and it had to take the intervention of the MP for the area, Hon Okudzeto Ablakwa who knew a doctor at 37 Military Hospital before they were told to send the child.

They then had to get an ambulance to transport the ailing 12 year old from Battor to Accra, 37 Military Hospital but the ambulance Service needed independent confirmation that the hospital were expecting am emergency case from Battor of a 12 year old boy.

Before they had the all clear from 37 Military Hospital the poor boy had blacked out and died at 10:05pm that same day that is Friday 14th May 2021.

The grief stricken MP, has questioned why basic healthcare had to take two members of parliament for a 12 year old to get a bed at a hospital to assess care.
