Wilmer Africa, producers of Frytol Oil and Fortune rice beat Voltic 5-3, to book a ticket to represent Ghana at the 2019 Standard Chartered (SC) Trophy Road to Anfield tourney, held at the Lizzy Sports Complex over the weekend.

The annual five-aside football competition saw Wilmar, put up a spirited performance to come from behind to defeat Voltic in the final game.

Both sides reached the finals of the competition after beating Ghacem, Far East, Specialty Fat, Interplast, Sika Krobea and Chase in their respective Groups.

In the quarter and semi final stage, Wilmar walloped Vanguard and Promasidor 7-2 and 4-0 respectively to advance to the final stage.

Though, it was a herculean task, the dream of traveling to Anfield to watch Liverpool play Wolves in the last game of the English Premier League motivated the side to go all out to beat Voltic in a keenly contested match.

It was all joy for Wilmar Africa to emerge champions of this year's tournament which witnessed 20 teams from corporate entities battling for a slot.

In the final competition in Anfield where Wilmar would play other winners from SC markets to determine, who wins the 2019 SC Trophy globally, the team would also engage in training sessions at the club, tour the club's facilities and interact with a number of Liverpool legends.

Ms. Asiedua Addae, the Head, Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing of SC Bank Ghana, was extremely excited Wilmar won the competition.

He said the best team won and urged them to prepare adequately as they march to battle other teams from May 11-14.

Former Liverpool player, Phill Babb congratulated the teams for the superb display and passion exhibited and hopes Wilmar Africa starts training before they enplane to Anfield.

He believes Wilmar have what it takes to win the Trophy in Anfield.

On Liverpool FC, the former player remains confident Liverpool will clinch the title.

Bernard Tackie who played for Wilmar Africa scored 15 goals in six matches for his side to win the tourney.
