Wolverhampton Wanderers have stepped up their fight for Premier League survival with a €13m (£11m) bid for Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjetey, currently with Swiss side FC Basel.
The 24-year-old centre-back has emerged as a key target for Wolves manager Rob Edwards, who is keen to strengthen his defence as the club looks to pull clear of relegation danger in the second half of the season.
Adjetey has impressed in Switzerland with his physical presence, composure on the ball and ability to read the game, qualities that have also earned him recognition at international level with Ghana. His performances for Basel have made him one of the most sought-after defenders in the Swiss Super League.
Sources close to the negotiations say Wolves see Adjetey as a long-term option who can make an immediate impact, particularly as the club has struggled with injuries and inconsistency at the back.
The Premier League side believe the €13m offer reflects both the player’s potential and his growing experience in European football, though Basel are yet to publicly respond to the bid.
For Adjetey, a move to Molineux would represent a significant step forward in his career, offering him the chance to test himself in one of the world’s most competitive leagues while boosting his profile ahead of future international tournaments.
With the January transfer window nearing its closing stages, Wolves are expected to push hard to conclude the deal as Edwards looks for fresh momentum in a tense battle to retain their top-flight status.
