In an unprecedented move in Ghana football, players in the Women's FA Cup will now benefit from the betPawa Locker Room Bonus starting from the Round of 16 in the 2024-25 season.
Each winning player will receive GH¢400 as part of this initiative, marking a historic step toward financially supporting female footballers.
Additionally, three members of the technical team within each squad will also be eligible for the bonus after a victory.
The betPawa Locker Room Bonus, introduced two seasons ago, initially targeted only Premier League players.
This initiative saw a boost in the 2023-24 season with a total of GH¢1.23 million distributed across 17 of the 18 Premier League teams, excluding Asante Kotoko SC, who opted out.
Originally, the bonus per player was set at GH¢150 but was increased to GH¢400 per match in the most recent season.
The initiative rewards players immediately, with funds sent directly to their mobile wallets post-match, right in the locker room.
This quick-access payment model aims to celebrate wins and boost players' morale. Beyond player bonuses, betPawa has supported Ghanaian football infrastructure by constructing an Astro Turf at the GFA Technical Centre in Prampram.
After successfully implementing the Locker Room Bonus in the Ghana Premier League, betPawa has extended the initiative to affiliated leagues in Rwanda and Uganda, with plans for further expansion across Africa.
BetPawa has also expressed openness to collaborating with other leagues and corporations interested in supporting athletes through similar reward structures.
