Paschal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank Group, is set to visit Ghana and Liberia from March 15 to March 20, 2026, in a bid to strengthen engagement with West African economies.

The visit will mark his first trip to the region since his appointment in November 2025 and is expected to reinforce the World Bank’s support for Ghana’s macroeconomic recovery and broader regional development initiatives.

During his stay, Donohoe will meet with former President John Dramani Mahama in Accra and former Vice President Joseph Boakai in Monrovia. Discussions with senior government officials in both countries will focus on priorities including job creation, expanded electricity access, and strengthened economic governance.

The engagements will also spotlight development programs across infrastructure, agriculture, and education, including initiatives such as AgriConnect and the global energy project Mission 300, which aims to broaden electricity access across Africa.

While in Ghana, Donohoe will hold meetings with the Minister of Finance, the Speaker of Parliament, development partners, civil society organizations, business leaders, and African-based think tanks to explore scalable solutions to national development challenges. He will also deliver a public lecture at the University of Ghana titled “Building Skills, Creating Jobs, and Empowering Africa’s Future.”

His itinerary includes visits to the Ghana Accountability and Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and Africa’s largest rooftop solar installation at the Tema Free Zone Enclave, developed by LMI Holdings. The project generates 16.82 megawatts of solar power to support businesses in the enclave.

In Liberia, Donohoe will meet with the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, and private sector leaders to discuss education, energy, and investment priorities. He will also tour the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant, which provides 88 megawatts to Monrovia and surrounding areas and is currently hosting a 20-megawatt solar photovoltaic installation.

The visit is expected to deepen collaboration between the World Bank and the two countries, supporting reforms aimed at economic growth, job creation, and enhanced development outcomes.
