Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Shatters Nürburgring Record in Bold Auto Industry Move
Xiaomi, a brand known globally for its smartphones and consumer tech, has officially taken the electric vehicle world by storm. The Chinese tech titan has smashed records at the iconic Nürburgring circuit in Germany, with its SU7 Ultra becoming the fastest production electric vehicle to ever complete a lap on the historic track.
Completing the challenging 20.8-kilometre course in an astonishing 7:04.957 minutes, the SU7 Ultra outpaced all rivals and firmly marked Xiaomi's entry into the electric vehicle (EV) industry as one to watch.
The record was announced by Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun via the Chinese social media platform Weibo, sparking waves of excitement across the tech and automotive sectors alike.
Beating Porsche: Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra Sets New Benchmark
Until now, the Nürburgring production EV lap record had been held by Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT, which clocked a lap time of 7:07.55 in September 2023. Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra, piloted by experienced professional driver Vincent Radermecker, has rewritten the record books by slicing more than two seconds off the previous best.
Radermecker, who also took part in earlier prototype testing of the SU7, praised the vehicle’s speed and precision, noting the seamless integration of Xiaomi’s cutting-edge technology into the vehicle’s high-performance engineering.
This historic achievement signals not only a performance milestone but also the serious intent behind Xiaomi’s automotive ambitions.
Xiaomi Eyes Further Expansion with Upcoming YU7 Electric SUV
Following the SU7 Ultra’s headline-grabbing performance, Xiaomi is already preparing to deepen its footprint in the EV sector. The company has revealed plans to launch its first electric SUV, the YU7, with an official debut expected in July.
The launch of the YU7 will further diversify Xiaomi’s vehicle lineup and reflect its long-term vision to become a formidable player in the global EV market.
With the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra now holding one of the most prestigious records in the automotive world, the company has signalled its arrival with unmistakable authority. From consumer gadgets to high-speed performance vehicles, Xiaomi’s transition appears not only seamless—but unstoppable.
