Maame Pinamang, the former wife of late gospel music icon Yaw Sarpong, has appealed to his family to permit her to observe widowhood rites following his passing.

In a video circulated by GH Page TV on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Maame Pinamang was seen at the musician’s family home in an emotional encounter with relatives and close associates, including the family head (Abusuapanin) and veteran gospel artiste Kofi Abraham.

The footage captured moments of tension as she and her relatives apologised to the family for past accusations she had made against the late gospel star.

Tearfully, she pleaded for forgiveness and asked to be recognised as his wife for the purpose of performing the customary rites ahead of his burial.

Family members questioned her prolonged absence during Yaw Sarpong’s illness and challenged why she was not present to care for him in his final days.

Responding to the concerns, Maame Pinamang attributed the circumstances to what she described as spiritual interference, insisting that the situation was beyond her control.

Yaw Sarpong, founder and leader of the renowned Asomafo Gospel Band, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the age of 66.

He reportedly died at Emena Hospital in Kumasi after weeks of medical treatment for multiple health complications.

In the months leading up to his death, the gospel legend was largely cared for by Maame Tiwaa, a vocalist with the Asomafo band. Her close involvement later sparked public controversy when Maame Pinamang appeared on Oyerepa FM’s relationship show hosted by Auntie Naa, alleging that Maame Tiwaa had disrupted her marriage.

The situation has since drawn widespread public attention, adding emotional complexity to the mourning of one of Ghana’s most respected gospel musicians.
