Celebrated sports journalist with the Multimedia Group Limited, Gary Al-Smith, has asked the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to consider making an overall assessment of the losses they have made from the December general elections.
His comments come after NDC's Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin beat NPP's Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye to become new Speaker of Parliament.
There were confusions on the floor of Parliament right from the dissolution of the 7th Parliament through to the election of a new Speaker for the 8th Parliament, but it ended with the ex-Nadowli-Kaleo MP being declared the winner over the immediate past Speaker, Prof. Oquaye, who was re-nominated by the NPP caucus.
Prior to the Thursday's election, the NPP who was the majority in Parliament had lost many of its seats to the NDC during the country's general elections held in December 2020.
Reacting to the developments so far, the famous sports journalist suggested that it was needful the NPP generally access what contributed their recent losses to the NDC.
“After all is said and done, the NPP needs to take stock at the losses they've made from last month's elections.” Gary's Facebook opinion stated.
According to him, “The events of the last 24 hours suggest that the incursions made by the NDC in the parliamentary election were no fluke.”
Smith added, “Clearly, the NDC have done their homework and made impressive gains in that period. But can they consolidate these gains over the next four years, in time to shake the 2024 polls?”
