Augustine Boakye, the promising Ghanaian forward now with French side Saint-Étienne, recently shared his admiration for Ghanaian legend Sulley Muntari, whose successful career remains a beacon for the next generation of players.

In an interview with Flashscore, Boakye explained that his respect for the former AC Milan and Inter Milan star began with his mother, a devoted fan of Muntari.

The 23-year-old forward says his admiration deepened as he started following Muntari’s career closely.

Like Muntari, Boakye is left-footed, tenacious, and embraces challenges on the field, whether by outsmarting defenders or making a decisive impact.

"Sulley Muntari was my idol growing up because my mum loved him so much," Boakye shared. "I watched him and also fell in love with him.

His passion and ambition stood out. I loved his long-range goals and how he fought for Ghana. Even in Europe, he paved the way for young ones like me."

Muntari’s achievements are extensive, including a Champions League title with Inter Milan and an FA Cup victory with Portsmouth in 2008.

Over his career, he scored 41 goals in more than 400 club appearances and contributed significantly to Ghana's national team, earning 84 caps and netting 20 goals.

Boakye, who joined Saint-Étienne on a four-year contract in July, is still adjusting but aims to replicate his past success with WAFA and Austria's Wolfsberger.

With his admiration for Muntari as a driving force, Boakye is eager to show the Saint-Étienne supporters his full potential as he settles into Ligue 2.
