The minister designate for Inner City and Zongo Development Boniface Abubakar Saddique says Zongo funds will not be disbursed for funerals and naming ceremonies.

Speaking before the vetting committee on Wednesday, the incoming minister diffused the notion that funds meant for the development of zongo communities in Ghana will be geared towards social activities within the communities.

Asked by Member of Parliament for Asawaase  Hon. Mubarak Muntaka to explain how the funds will be disbursed, to whom and what the funds will be used for, Mr Saddique who has served as Minister of Youth, Labour and Employment in the past said the fund is not meant for funerals or naming ceremonies.

He explained that if he attends a naming ceremony or funeral of a friend or relative, he will only make donations in that capacity but will not allow for the use of funds meant for the development of the zongo areas for such social gatherings.

"The Zongo fund is not for funerals and naming ceremonies. If I attend a funeral as a friend, relative, I can give a donation in my capacity as a friend and not a donation coming from the Zongo fund. The fund will be an investment into ICT, education, drains and development of zongos" he reiterated
