DStv pricing talks kick off today

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed receiving a formal response from Multichoice Ghana in relation to its notice of intent to suspend the company’s authorization and review its pricing model.
In a statement released on September 7, 2025, the NCA announced that the first meeting of the newly formed Stakeholder Committee will take place on Monday, September 8, 2025.
This follows a warning from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, who had earlier threatened to shut down MultiChoice Ghana’s DStv operations by September 6 unless the company engaged in talks to reduce its subscription prices.
The Minister’s remarks came after MultiChoice Ghana dismissed claims that it had agreed to reduce DStv subscription fees, even as the government moves forward with a joint committee to discuss potential price cuts.
In a statement issued on September 5, 2025, the pay-TV operator affirmed its commitment to engaging in dialogue but clarified that no decision had yet been made on lowering subscription fees.
The NCA’s press release on September 7 provided further clarification, noting that additional discussions had been held with Multichoice Ghana following its earlier public comments. The Authority outlined three key points:
Stakeholder Committee: Multichoice Ghana has agreed to the establishment of the Stakeholder Committee, as directed by the Minister. The company has pledged to fully participate in the review of DStv pricing in Ghana.
Review Outcome: The findings and recommendations of the committee will be determined upon the completion of its review process.
Commitment to Legal Compliance: Multichoice has reaffirmed its commitment to respecting due process, Ghana’s laws, and the interests of the Ghanaian public.
The NCA assured the public that further updates on the ongoing discussions will be provided as they unfold.
