Gov’t opens passport application centre in Techiman

The Government of Ghana has inaugurated a Passport Application Centre in Techiman, Bono East Region, to bring passport services closer to residents and reduce the need for travel to other regions.
The centre was commissioned on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs James Gyakye Quayson, who said the facility forms part of broader reforms to improve efficiency and transparency in passport administration. He noted that the reforms are intended to curb the activities of middlemen and strengthen public confidence in the application process.
During the ceremony, eight applicants who processed their documents through the Techiman centre were issued with their passports.
Bono East Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi said the new centre aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s agenda to decentralise essential public services and improve access for citizens across the country.
Traditional authorities, led by the Nifahene and Aduanahene of Techiman, Nana Boakye Ameyaw Pentenprem II, welcomed the initiative, noting that it would reduce travel costs and ease access to passport services for residents. Members of the Bono East Parliamentary Caucus also commended the government for promoting equitable service delivery.
The event was attended by District Chief Executives, the Regional Coordinating Director, Regional Directors of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department and the Youth Employment Agency, Municipal Coordinating Directors, heads of security agencies, as well as religious and traditional leaders.
