Ada MP slams residents over demonstration on bad roads

Comments by Ada Member of Parliament and Deputy Majority Whip, Comfort Doyoe Ghansah, have sparked controversy after she criticised some residents in the constituency over a demonstration concerning the poor state of roads in the area.
The controversy follows growing public frustration in Ada over deteriorating road conditions, particularly the long-delayed Kasseh to Ada Foah road project, which has remained a major political issue in the constituency for years.
Residents and some local activists recently embarked on demonstrations to demand urgent government intervention and accelerated road construction within the district.
However, reacting to the protests in a social media post, the Ada MP appeared to accuse some demonstrators of hypocrisy and political opportunism, arguing that similar protests were not organised during the eight-year administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“The NPP stopped the Kasseh to Ada Foah road construction in 2017 in the name of investigations. All road networks in Ada came to a standstill, yet you were comfortable with them and did not demonstrate,” she wrote.
According to the MP, the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has only been in office for about one and a half years but has already begun constructing some inner roads within Ada.
She therefore questioned why some residents were allegedly joining forces with the opposition NPP to protest against their “own government.”
“Today, your party has been in power for just one and a half years, and the government have already started constructing inner roads in Ada, yet you are teaming up with the NPP to demonstrate against your own government. Shame on you,” the post stated.
The comments have since triggered backlash on social media, with critics accusing the MP of disrespecting residents for exercising their constitutional right to demonstrate over development concerns affecting the constituency.
Some of the residents argue that road infrastructure remains one of the most critical challenges confronting Ada, making public frustration understandable regardless of which political party is in power.
Others also questioned why the MP, who has represented Ada in Parliament for over a decade, appeared to dismiss concerns from residents demanding improvements in road infrastructure and transportation.
The Kasseh to Ada Foah road has remained a longstanding development concern in the area and has repeatedly featured prominently in political campaigns by both the NDC and the NPP.
The project became controversial in 2017 after work reportedly stalled following investigations and contractual reviews initiated under the previous administration.
Since then, many residents have continued to complain about worsening road conditions, dust pollution, transportation difficulties and the impact on economic activities within the constituency.
Ada, known for its tourism potential, fishing communities and growing economic activities, has long struggled with road infrastructure deficits despite its strategic importance within the Greater Accra Region.
Residents say poor roads continue to affect access to healthcare, education, trade and tourism development in several communities.
