“I Watched My Wife and Child Die” — June 3 Survivor Recounts Moment Disaster Struck [VIDEO]

He walked into that fuel station with his family and walked out alone. More than a decade later, the memory has never left him.
A survivor of the devastating June 3, 2015 disaster has broken his silence, sharing a deeply painful account of the moments that changed his life forever and claimed the lives of the two people he loved most.
Speaking about that fateful evening, the man recalled arriving at the fuel station with his wife and child, intending simply to purchase fuel. What should have been a routine stop turned into a nightmare without warning.
Station attendants informed them that fuel sales had been temporarily suspended after water contaminated the supply — a development that caused the family to step out of their vehicle and wait nearby.
Seconds later, catastrophe struck.
The explosion and fire that followed left him with severe burns across his body. His wife and child were not as fortunate. Both perished in the disaster, taken in an instant by an inferno that consumed everything in its path.
His account is a devastating reminder that behind the statistics — the more than 150 lives officially recorded as lost that night — are real families, real stories, and real grief that no anniversary commemoration can fully capture.
As the OneGhana Movement and other advocacy groups continue to press for justice and accountability through the courts, survivors like him represent the human face of a tragedy that Ghana has yet to fully reckon with.
Eleven years on, he is still waiting — not just for answers, but for acknowledgement that what happened to his family should never have happened at all.
