Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo says the Black Stars are fully focused on their crucial FIFA World Cup clash against England, admitting it will be a difficult contest but insisting the team is determined to come away with all three points.

The four-time African champions got their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign off to a winning start after edging Panama in a dramatic encounter at BMO Field.

Caleb Yirenkyi struck deep into stoppage time to hand Ghana a hard-fought victory, despite Panama enjoying long spells of possession and creating the better chances.

Attention has now shifted to Monday’s high-profile Group Stage meeting with England at Gillette Stadium, a fixture Semenyo believes will test Ghana’s character.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Semenyo told Ghana FA Media.

“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves. We know we want to win that game, but we also know it’s not going to be easy.

“The most important thing now is to recover well and prepare properly in training leading up to the England game.”

The Manchester City forward is also looking forward to facing several familiar faces from the English Premier League, describing the occasion as a challenge the entire squad is eager to embrace.

“It’s going to be different for sure. I’m looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

“I think everyone in the Ghana team is looking forward to it. We want to prove a point. I’ll just leave that message out there.”

Following the England fixture, Ghana will conclude their Group Stage campaign against Croatia on June 27.

The Black Stars will be hoping to build on their opening victory as they target a place in the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 tournament.
