Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has shared an emotional reunion with the daughter of his late friend and musician, Castro de Destroyer, during his stay in Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Gyan, who was in Canada to support the Black Stars during their opening match of the tournament, met Roselyn, Castro’s daughter, more than a decade after he last saw her.

In a heartfelt video posted on social media, the former striker introduced the young lady to his millions of followers, reflecting on the passage of time and the painful memories associated with the loss of his close friend.

“This is the daughter of UnderFire. She was two years old when I last saw her. She is a big girl now,” Gyan said. “I don’t want to be emotional, but it is what it is.”

The emotional encounter struck a chord with many fans, who remembered the close friendship between Gyan and Castro. Beyond football, the pair collaborated in music, releasing several songs together, including the popular hit African Girls, which became a favourite among Ghanaian music lovers.

Castro disappeared in July 2014 during a holiday trip to Ada after a reported jet-ski accident while vacationing with Gyan. Despite extensive search efforts, his body was never recovered, leaving the nation in shock.

Under Ghanaian law, Castro was officially declared dead seven years after his disappearance.

Gyan’s reunion with Roselyn served as a poignant reminder of the enduring bond he shared with the late musician and highlighted how time has transformed the lives of those Castro left behind.
