Bills Micro Credit backs 2026 Ga Homowo Health Walk as more than 6,000 take part

More than 6,000 people joined the 2026 Ga Homowo Health Walk on 1 August, with the event combining health promotion, cultural pride and community unity ahead of this year’s Homowo Festival.

Sponsored by Bills Micro Credit Limited, the annual walk attracted residents, traditional leaders and visitors from across the Ga State and beyond. It is one of the main activities held in the build-up to the festival.

The event started at Mantse Agbona before moving through several key areas of Gamashie. Participants passed through Makola, Arena, Korle Bu, Korle Gonno, Mamprobi and Chorkor, with the walk concluding at Bannerman Road.

Free health screening was available earlier in the day, giving participants the opportunity to undergo basic medical checks before the main programme continued.

The day ended with a series of traditional games and recreational activities, including ludo and card competitions. Cash prizes were also awarded, while musical performances from Akosua Agyapong, King Jerry, Adane Best and Adotey Tetor contributed to the celebratory atmosphere.

Nuumo Nikoi Amasah II, Klan Wulomo and Vice President of the Ga Adangbe Wulomei Council, praised the organisers and supporters of the event.

He expressed his appreciation to the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Traditional Council, Bills Micro Credit and the company’s Founder, Richard Nii-Armah Quaye, for their continued backing of the annual Health Walk.

Nuumo Nikoi Amasah II said the timing of the event was intentional, with the walk taking place during the week before Homowo to bring Ga communities together and help prepare residents for the festival.

“This Health Walk is open to every Ghanaian, regardless of political affiliation, religious belief or ethnic background. We walk together to promote healthy living, strengthen our unity and celebrate the Ga State,” he said.

He also called on Ga indigenes living in other parts of Ghana to return home for this year’s Homowo celebrations. In addition, he urged Ghanaians to promote peace, togetherness and unity.

Representing Bills Micro Credit, the company’s Marketing Manager, Nana Ama Anderson, said support for traditional festivals was now an important part of the organisation’s work in the communities it serves.

She said Bills Micro Credit had worked with traditional councils across Ghana since 2024 to support a number of major festivals. Those celebrations include Homowo, Fetu Afahye, Odwira and Hogbetsotso.

The partnership with the Ga traditional authorities has therefore provided support for an event that combines public health activity with the preservation and celebration of local culture. The Health Walk also offered a shared platform for people from different political, religious and ethnic backgrounds to participate in the lead-up to Homowo.
