AMA Gives Agbogbloshie Traders August 28 Deadline Ahead of 24-Hour Economy Market Project
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has issued traders and other occupants operating on sections of land at Agbogbloshie, including the area popularly known as the Nzema Market, a deadline to vacate the site to make way for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market.
The Assembly formally served the affected occupants with a one-month notice on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with the deadline set for August 28. After that date, the AMA says it will begin removing structures within areas earmarked for the redevelopment.
The affected locations include the Agbogbloshie Cargo Station, Nzema Market and parts of the Yam Market, according to the Assembly.
To minimise disruption to traders, the AMA said it has prepared an alternative parcel of land where commercial operators affected by the redevelopment will be relocated.
The decision follows consultations involving traditional leaders, market authorities, traders, community representatives and other stakeholders on the proposed redevelopment and clearance exercise.
As part of the preparations, the Assembly began marking structures within the project area before launching a public education and sensitisation exercise on Wednesday, August 5.
The campaign is intended to explain the scope of the redevelopment, the clearance process and relocation arrangements, while also highlighting the expected benefits of the new market facility.
The AMA said the project forms part of broader efforts to support the government’s 24-Hour Economy programme by developing a dedicated market designed to facilitate commercial activity beyond conventional trading hours.
Traders and other affected occupants have consequently been urged to take note of the August 28 deadline and make the necessary arrangements to move to the designated relocation site.
