Asante Kotoko set to offload Kwame Poku in squad rebuild
Asante Kotoko are set to part ways with striker Kwame Poku as the club begins a significant squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The former Ghana Under-23 international is expected to be among a number of players leaving the Porcupine Warriors as the club looks to rebuild following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.
Poku rejoined Kotoko in the summer of 2025 on a free transfer after spells with Algerian side USM Alger and Moroccan club Olympique Khouribga. He signed a two-and-a-half-year deal but managed four goals in 16 appearances during the season.
According to Kumasi-based Akoma FM, as many as 10 players are expected to leave the club, with Poku among those earmarked for departure. The reported exits form part of a wider restructuring exercise led by head coach Eric Tinkler and Director of Football Stanley Menzo as they seek to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.
Although Asante Kotoko are yet to officially confirm the departures, announcements regarding the futures of several players are expected in the coming days as preparations for the 2026/27 season continue.
The Porcupine Warriors will hope the squad reshuffle marks the beginning of a revival after falling short of expectations last season, with the club aiming to re-establish itself as a genuine contender for the Ghana Premier League title.
