Augustine Boakye returns with assist in Saint-Étienne’s pre-season win over Venezia

Ghana midfielder Augustine Boakye made an encouraging return from injury by providing an assist in Saint-Étienne’s pre-season victory over Italian side Venezia as the French club continued preparations for the new Ligue 1 campaign.
The 25-year-old played the opening 45 minutes and impressed with his creativity, setting up one of the goals in a confident display that highlighted his attacking qualities.
Boakye’s return will be welcomed by both Saint-Étienne and Ghana after an impressive 2025/26 season in which he played a key role in the club’s promotion back to Ligue 1.
The attacking midfielder scored five goals and registered seven assists in 22 league appearances, earning a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although he did not feature during the Black Stars’ campaign in North America, Boakye remained patient throughout the tournament and continues to push for a regular role in the national team.
His performance against Venezia offered another reminder of his quality as he builds match fitness ahead of the new season, with Saint-Étienne aiming to establish themselves back in the French top flight after securing promotion.
Boakye will now hope to carry his promising pre-season form into the Ligue 1 campaign and strengthen his case for more opportunities with the Black Stars in the months ahead.
