Citi FM/Channel One TV Literacy Challenge: top 100 take key aptitude test

The top 100 contestants in the 2026 Citi FM/Channel One TV Literacy Challenge have taken part in a demanding aptitude test at the British Council in Accra.

The examination was held on Sunday, 16 August 2026, as the competition entered a decisive phase in its search for Ghana’s brightest young minds.

The test represents an important hurdle for the contestants, who are competing for places in the grand finale quiz and the chance to become the overall winner of this year’s Literacy Challenge.

The 100 participants secured their places through an earlier stage of the competition centred on written communication and critical thinking. They were asked to write a letter of at least 600 words to the Minister for Education, taking on the role of youth consultants.

That assignment required the contestants to examine the benefits and drawbacks of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. They were also expected to recommend practical measures that would allow Ghana to introduce AI into basic schools while ensuring that pupils in rural and underserved communities were not excluded.

Their responses formed part of the process used to identify the contestants who progressed to the top 100 stage. The aptitude test now provides the next assessment of their abilities before the competition reaches its final round.

Only the top 10 performers from Sunday’s examination will advance to the grand finale quiz. That final stage will determine the winner of the 2026 Literacy Challenge.

The overall champion will receive a GH¢10,000 cash prize as well as a trophy.

The competition is powered by Channel One TV and Citi FM. It is sponsored by Prospectus Ghana Limited, SIC Insurance and Advocate Publishing.

The challenge is part of a nationwide effort to identify and encourage talented young people in Ghana. This year’s written assignment placed particular emphasis on the opportunities and risks associated with AI in education, as well as the need to make any future use of the technology accessible to learners beyond the country’s better-served communities.

With the aptitude test now completed, attention turns to the selection of the 10 contestants who will compete in the grand finale. Their progress will decide who claims the title and the accompanying prize at the conclusion of the competition.
