Former France international Marcel Desailly has been given a push at the back by coach JE Sarpong to replace exited Black Stars coach Avram Grant.

Speaking to UTV, the former Kotoko and Aduana coach backed the Ghana-born French man for the role on grounds that Ghana does not need any more foreign coaches to man the senior national team.

According to him, Marcel Desailly should not be regarded as a foreign coach as he was born in Ghana and only played his football for France hence he best suits the position.
Marcel Desailly was born in Accra Ghana but moved to France where he played and won many trophies for the country including the illustrious 1998 World Cup trophy.

“Marcel Desailly is the right man for the vacant coaching job and I see him as the person who can end our 35-year run without a major trophy when he is appointed.” coach Sarpong asserted

“Foreign coaches can’t win trophies for us and so I don’t see the rationale behind their continuous appointments.

“Desailly is not a foreign coach to me because he was born here and only represented France. He has what it takes to lead the Black Stars as he remains the only option that can bring success to us when given the top coaching job.” he continued

Desailly has never managed a football team but will rely on his huge achievements and experience as a player if given the managerial role.

Grant led Ghana for two years taking the team to the finals of the 2015 AFCON in Equitorial Guinea where they lost on penalties to Ivory Coast.
