Daddy Lumba’s son warns of legal action over claims against family

Calvin Kwadwo Fosu, the first son of Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, says the family has instructed a legal team to act against people who spread what it describes as false and defamatory claims.
In a social media video released after events marking the first anniversary of Daddy Lumba’s death, Calvin said the family would no longer remain silent as its name was allegedly being damaged.
“To those who have chosen to spread falsehoods or tarnish the family’s name, let us be clear. Those actions will no longer go unanswered. A legal team has been instructed to deal with these matters through the appropriate channels,” he said.
Calvin did not identify any individual or refer to a particular incident. However, he made clear that the family was ready to pursue the issue through the legal system.
The warning came as the family reflected on the year since Daddy Lumba’s passing, with a series of anniversary activities held in his honour.
Calvin also thanked people across Ghana, as well as Daddy Lumba’s fans, for the support they had given the family during the past year.
“On behalf of all my family, I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for the incredible love, support and prayers you’ve shown us over the past year. The way you’ve continued to honour my father’s legacy means more than words can ever express,” he said.
He expressed further appreciation to everyone who had continued to celebrate the musician’s life and work. Calvin also prayed for God’s blessings on those who had stood by the family.
The anniversary events brought together Daddy Lumba’s relatives, friends, colleagues and fans. They gathered to remember a performer whose contribution to Ghanaian highlife has secured a lasting place in the country’s music history.
Daddy Lumba’s legacy remained central to the commemorations, with supporters continuing to show their affection and respect for the late musician. Calvin’s message combined gratitude for that public support with a firm warning to those the family believes have made damaging statements.
The family’s position, as set out by Calvin, is that any further claims considered false or defamatory will be addressed through the appropriate legal channels. No names or details of the alleged statements were given in the video.
Daddy Lumba was remembered during the anniversary gatherings as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians. The events offered an opportunity for family, friends, fellow performers and fans to honour his enduring influence, while Calvin’s comments signalled that the family intends to protect its name as it continues to preserve his legacy.
