Former MP claims calls for removal of Andre Ayew from Black Stars captaincy

Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North Constituency, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has stirred controversy by alleging internal calls within the Black Stars squad for the removal of captain Andre Ayew.
Agyemang, who previously served as the board chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), claims to have spoken to several current players who believe that Ayew’s leadership negatively impacts team dynamics.
In an interview on Kessben FM, Agyemang stated that certain players have expressed a desire to see Ayew replaced, believing that this would enhance the team’s performance.
“Some seasoned players, in particular, are viewed as detrimental to team spirit and should be replaced. Their continued presence hinders cohesion and unity within the team. Dede Ayew should step down from his role in the Black Stars. Introducing new talent could potentially elevate the team’s performance,” Agyemang said.
“He no longer contributes to the team’s improvement, and his presence brings a lot of issues. Most of the players feel he doesn’t help with their cohesion, so they want him gone. I talk to a lot of the players.”
Agyemang emphasized the need for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint a coach well-versed in Ghanaian and African football, as well as player dynamics, to address any issues affecting the team’s performance.
The GFA is currently in the process of selecting a new coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after Ghana’s unexpected first-round exit from AFCON 2023.
