Four arrested, two on the run in Cape Coast cocaine bust– Interior Minister
Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has confirmed that four individuals have been arrested and granted bail in connection with the high-profile drug seizure that occurred in Cape Coast earlier this year, while two key suspects remain at large.
The arrests follow a major operation in March 2025, during which operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) intercepted a tipper truck at Pedu Junction, uncovering approximately 3.3 tonnes of cocaine hidden beneath a layer of sand in 143 sacks.
Providing an update to Parliament on July 9, the Minister said the driver of the truck and his assistant were initially apprehended, and subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects.
“It has to be mentioned that apart from the driver and his assistant, four other individuals were subsequently arrested and granted bail,” he stated.
He assured the House that the government remains committed to combating drug trafficking, and revealed that the next court hearing on the matter is set for July 24, 2025.
“Two prime suspects are, however, at large. Efforts are ongoing to arrest them. The next court hearing of the matter is scheduled to take place on July 24, 2025,” he added.
